Bioheat is typically offered in B5, B10 and B20* blends. One of the greatest features of bioheat is that it is a “drop-in” fuel that can be used in your existing oil heating equipment without any modifications. Greenleaf Biofuels encourages the use of bioheat B20: a percentage blend that ensures the safe and consistent operation of your existing system while maximizing the many environmental, public health and energy security benefits of biodiesel.
Bioheat has been used in Europe for many years and has been thoroughly tested in the U.S. by the Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) and the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA). Bioheat is now becoming available in the northeast through progressive home heating oil dealers who recognize their customers’ desire for cleaner burning, domestic, renewable energy.
Greenleaf Biofuels has partnered with home heating oil dealers in Connecticut to offer you this innovative new fuel. Bioheat oil meets the increasing demand for cleaner and greener home heat. Because Bioheat fuel burns so cleanly, your heating system is operating more efficiently over time and may require less maintenance…saving you money.
CO2 is the leading greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. A 1998 biodiesel lifecycle study, jointly sponsored by the US Department of Energy and the US Department of Agriculture, concluded biodiesel reduces net CO2 emissions by 78 percent compared to petroleum diesel. This is due to biodiesel’s closed carbon cycle: the CO2 released into the atmosphere when biodiesel is burned is recycled by growing plants, which are later processed into feedstock oil for producing more biodiesel. Heat your home, not the planet!

*Bxx refers to the percentage of biodiesel mixed with petroleum diesel to create a blend. B20, for example, is a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% No. 2 diesel fuel.
